"An Evening with Douglas Tate and Peter Jenkyns " - a CD of recordings made on a musical visit to Sweden in October 1977.recorded live in Sweden in 1977. Alongside works by Gabriel Faure, Marin-Marais and Peter Jenkyns the CD also includes a highly entertaining attempt by Douglas to explain 'the mouth organ' to his Swedish audience. As with all of the existing recordings of Douglas playing (with the notable exception of those made for the BBC) these have been extracted from amateur recordings made on now aging magnetic tape and have some residual noise as a result.

Tracks:
Three Old French Dances (Douglas Tate & Peter Jenkyns)
I Play the Mouth Organ ... (Douglas Tate)
Three Elizabethan Dances (Douglas Tate & Peter Jenkyns)
Vibrato and Helmholz Resonance (Douglas Tate)
Smoke Gets in Your Eyes (Douglas Tate & Peter Jenkyns)
Any Questions? (Douglas Tate)
Berceuse (Douglas Tate & Peter Jenkyns)
Playing Chords (Douglas Tate)

In the February 2007 edition of Harmonica World magazine, there is an article by Cheng Jang Ming about the playing of Massenet's Meditation on the chromatic harmonica - Douglas played this piece at the University of Singapore during his visit in 2004. The NHL have featured an recording Douglas made earlier that year to help illustrate the article. Click to listen to the or for scores and more information click here.

Douglas's memorial service on 21st April closed with a recording of Douglas playing one of his favourite ensemble pieces at SPAH in Denver in August 2001, a trio sonata by Jean Baptiste Loeillet which he arranged for two harmonicas and piano.

The first of the three movements can be heard here, the first harmonica part (originally for flute or treble recorder) is played by Tommy Morgan, with Douglas taking the second (and lower) oboe part - typically, it is Douglas you hear first ...This recording is used with permission. Douglas also played this piece in Singapore in December 2004 with Yasuo Watani.

Now a link to a composer, arranger and pianist who first worked with Douglas in 2002/3 - Alan Haughton. He wrote an original piece for Douglas, Awakening (harmonica and piano) which can be viewed at Alan's SibeliusMusic page - needs free registration first.

He also wrote the arrangement of Holiday for Strings that Douglas is playing here (low sample rate) and was the pianist at Douglas's memorial service on 21st April 2006.
